FAQs

Who does my money support?

The majority of your contribution goes towards the local caring organisation looking after your grandparent, rather than a specific individual. This means that the organisation can better help all the people in its care, including your grandparent. A proportion also goes towards other community projects for older people in developing countries.

How will I know how my money is being used?

You will receive news from your grandparent twice a year. This will mention other older people at your caring organisation so you will get to know the whole community, and tell you about general activities involving all the older people. You will be able to see clearly how your support is making a real difference to their lives.

Can I write to my Grandparent?

We are very happy to forward cards or photographs with short greetings but these must be addressed to all the older people at the caring organisation, to ensure that everyone is included. Please bear in mind that longer letters can present problems as many of the older people cannot read and do not understand English.

Can I send extra gifts to my Grandparent?

Extra gifts are always welcome. Unfortunately, we are not able to forward on non-monetary gifts. However, financial gifts are of greater benefit as the older people themselves can decide what they need most. If you would like to send an extra donation to your caring organisation it will be gratefully received. Extra gifts will be shared out for the benefit of all the older people at the project.

What will my £15 a month do?

Your money will help to provide basic essentials such as food, clothing and healthcare for your grandparent and for other older people looked after by the caring organisation. It also helps fund long-term projects such as income generation schemes. Your support restores hope, independence and dignity.

You will get a direct link with a culture that's very different from your own through updates from your grandparent and the Sponsor a Grandparent newsletter. And, of course, you will get the good feeling of knowing that every day you are making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable older people who need your help.
